Why did you choose this piece?
I chose this piece because I think it is the most representative of the collection. It encapsulates the heart and soul of my inspiration.
What makes it stand out amongst the collection?
The stone ring is exactly what I imagined in my mind. I found the perfect stone on the winter beach of my country from which I then proceeded to make the mold. It also reminds me of that beautiful winter and the dark day that I spent with my dog on the beach looking for stones and watching the stormy sea.
Explain the origins of the design. What were your initial inspirations?
With my handcrafted designs I talk about the world around me as well as the way I feel surrounded by it. The natural environment and landscape influence my senses in a multitude of ways with its shapes, roughness, scents, and sounds. I live between the sea and the hills, and the whole entirety of nature surrounds me. Its silence and its sounds comfort and upset me at the same time. Stepping into nature evokes a childhood memory, like the way you feel after a new emotion. The senses thrive, feeding on the life that is all around me.
Away from the people, in loneliness, I find words in the rocks washed by the waves, and caresses in the strong wind coming from the woods. Nature accompanies me, like an old friend. With this collection I wanted to illustrate the special relationship I have with my land. This is why white dominates—the white of the stones that overflow on the soil of the Karst plateau.
Why did you choose the specific patterns, colors and material?
Each stone has been naturally eaten away at by the sea and each branch broken by the Bora winds, making them each uniquely imperfect and beautiful. I collected some and used them as molds into which I poured natural resin. I combined these resin pieces with the warm nuances of wood, brass and gold.
What is the story of this piece and how does it work to tell your collection's overall story?
I wanted to wear a piece of my land on one hand. I wanted to look at my hands (which are just the best tool in my work) and to see my inspiration: my land. From the ring then I developed the rest of the collection.
