I still remember my first meal in the UK: a Michelin-recommended Italian
restaurant with lavish decor and a bustling atmosphere. However the pasta they served there was so salty which almost burnt my throat.
What causes the conflict between awful taste and fancy appearance? In this project, this conflict is linked to the recipes from the 1970s French magazine Elle aimed at the working class, which crudely imitated the luxurious appearance of food based on the imagination of aristocratic life. Originating from the differences in class tastes in sociology, a series of studies were conducted, marked by the historical event of the French Revolution in the 18th century, so as the era of extravagant lifestyle.
This project applies the decorative cultural elements of the Rococo period, the development of table etiquette, and the trends sparked by modern molecular gastronomy techniques to fashion design, incorporating them into pattern cutting and innovative textiles.
