Yuliya Kyrpo

I was born and raised in Ukraine up until I was 13, when my family moved to London. England has proved itself to be the land of opportunities. I successfully participated in various design competitions, winning FDC Young Designer of the Year 2007 and first place in METRO Re-Create competition by creating an origami dress out of 1000 paper cranes.Japanese ancient legend promises that anyone who folds 1000 origami paper cranes will be granted a wish and so, I was accepted to study Bespoke Tailoring at London College of Fashion.

The beauty of the course was in the limitations of traditional tailoring. Having the boundaries of the 'box' has encouraged me to to find a way to come out of it. The combination of tailoring and USSR heritage determines my technical approach to design and desire to create perception of motion and functionality in my work.
