Uma Kangai is a London based luxury fashion label, whose vision is defined by Uma's delicate, dream-like and ethereal style. Her look has been described as “utterly feminine” and styles that “could easily be seen on red carpet events”.

Uma grew up in Bristol to Zimbabwean and English parents, in a family influenced by Indian culture, spending memorable childhood experiences travelling to Rishikesh, northern India. She has always had a personal passion to create utterly feminine, beautiful fashion with exquisite detail.

Uma refined her skills and style at East London’s fashion school where she received a first class for her work and was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s fashion award. She received sponsorship from Swarovski Elements for her graduate collection ‘Through Rose Tinted Glasses’ from which she has dressed bloggers for London Fashion Week and other London events. She has also supplied her accessories for bridal use.

She has had influence from extensive experiences at Fashion houses Luella, Jenny Packham, Erdem and Fyodor Golan in London, and spent some time in New York alongside the design team at Marchesa before graduating.

Going on to work at Sarah Baadarani and Reem Juan in London, Uma worked closely with the designers on couture collections shown at Paris Fashion Week selling mainly to the luxury middle-eastern market, attending buying meetings in Paris and London. She also assisted with commission projects including collaborating with Symphony in the Dubai Mall.

Uma’s eye for detail, embroidery and embellishments, combined with inside knowledge of the industry, and a desire to create one of a kind couture pieces inspired her to start building her brand with her AW14 collection.

Uma currently lives and works in London where she is building her brand while working on design project commissions, personal styling and freelancing for other brands.
