TTLau is a Glasgow-based textile design studio with a passion for print, colour and illustration. Creating luxurious printed scarves for the women’s designer market, TTLau is the brainchild of Hong Kong-born print designer and graduate of Heriot-Watt’s prestigious School of Textiles and Design, Shiona Manson. During her student years, Shiona has worked on numerous projects with leading British designers such as Eley Kishimoto and Vivienne Westwood as well as selling print designs to well-known UK and US retailers. Since graduating in 2011, Shiona has been relentlessly building her brand whilst designing her debut collection “Glasgow Characters”.

“Glasgow Characters” was inspired by Shiona’s experiences of growing up in the city. An avid “people-watcher”, she incorporated the unusual aspects of life in Glasgow into her pieces. From sofas and armchairs occupying bus shelters, pigeons donning coffee cups as hats, and the bunnet-wearing men of the British Legion (known locally as the “Bunnet Brigade”). These may not seem like usual points of reference for young designers, but Shiona’s quirky style and sense of humour, as well as her passion for the city in which she grew up have proved a great source of inspiration for her colourful first collection.

Unlike other brands, TTLau is not trend-driven, allowing Shiona complete creative freedom in her designs. TTLau’s prints combine original design concepts, creative use of colour (for which Shiona was awarded the Colour Prize 2010 by the Worshipful Company of Dyers, City of London) and a sense of humour with luxurious fabrics and skilled craftsmanship in order to create scarves that can be seen as investment pieces.

Supporting the Scottish textile industry is of upmost importance to TTLau, and so all of our scarves are designed and manufactured in Scotland, meaning that we can ensure all of our pieces have been manufactured in excellent labour conditions.
