MENTAWAI TRIBE COLLECTION

The inspiration for this collection is unique Mentawai tribe. They live on a small island, which is located in the Indian Ocean. Till the end of the 19th century the tribes were living in complete isolation. For a couple thousand yearsthe tribes formed their own culture, religion, rituals, tribal art, hunting and healing methods because of the lack of people influx from outside the island. The island was discovered in the 19th century, which means that the Mentawai are one of the latest tribe discoveries in the world. Unusual forms of body art - a teeth sharpening ritual and distinctive tribal tattos inspired us to create a collection of Mentawai t-shirts. After the production we have reached the island in order to search for Mentawai villages. And the story begins here...
