Dolapo Otunla, takes inspiration from the unusual, her aesthetic is derived from a
combination of everyday objects, classic form and global craftsmanship. The effect
is a highly individual footwear and handbag line for women who love to lead the
fashion pack. The brand name OYSBY (Oy-z-bee) was created by Dolapo with a
double entendre meaning. An acronym for “Own Your Style Be Yourself “ a message
she wants to share with customers to embrace who they are.
Dolapo was born in Nigeria and educated in Chemical Engineering at the University
of Lagos. She then proceeded to earn a Master’s in Process Technology and Business
Management at the University of Warwick in the UK becoming an engineer in 2007.
Determined to pursue her fascination of footwear and handbags she effectively
worked her engineering job and retail business simultaneously. In 2010, Dolapo made the “final decision to turn
footwear and handbags into her full-time career.
The knowledge acquired selling footwear for over two years was an important experience and encouraged Dolapo
to take her next path. With a style and vision of her own, it was time to move forward and put her plan in motion.
California became her new home in 2010 where she attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
In 2012, armed with passion, education, knowledge and worldly travel, Dolapo moved to the London region to be in
proximity to a fashion capital. She registered her “ 1st label Damaris Mode in the UK and Nigeria where she designed
and sold a line of solar bags to Africa. This product, used for charging mobile devices on-the-go is still relevant in
that market today.
With a desire to improve her craft, she enrolled in the London College of Fashion and completed a course with ARS
Sutoria, the famous Italian school for shoe design and shoe making.
Oysby London founded in 2014 is best known for its eccentricity, freshness, and quality. Dolapo’s “ 1st curated
collection will be available on her website in spring of 2015. The S/S 15/16 collection is a comprehensive collection
that speaks to the feminine, potent and playful side of women.
