Nia Topalova is a knitwear designer, interested in topics such as self-expression, sexuality, and femininity. Her evident fascination with the human body is the reason for choosing fashion design as ultimate form of expression.
Born in Athens, she grew up between Sofia and Rome. She holds a bachelor's degree in fashion design from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia (2020-2023). During her studies, she completed an exchange program in Antwerp (2021-2022) studying costume design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, enriching her artistic vision. She recently completed her internship at Iris Van Herpen (2023) as an atelier intern, participating in the creation of each garment from beginning to end and understanding every step of the creative process. Nia worked behind the scenes at Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 23/24 for the collection "Architectonics," participating in fittings, castings, photoshoots, and mainly working in the atelier. She also worked on pieces for the exhibition "Iris Van Herpen Sculpting the Senses" for 'MAD' Museum in Paris. During her internship, she took part in the creation of custom garments for Máxima, Queen of the Netherlands, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Beyoncé, Maisie Williams, and others.
Nia is now working between Sofia and Amsterdam. Focusing on her own creations, she uses yarn as a material that allows her to work following her instincts and vision while expressing herself without limitations
