MARK / GIUSTI Launches the “ROMA-NZA” Collection for A/W 2012 – 2013 during Milan Men’s Fashion Week.
The “ROMA-NZA” Collection, and as the name suggests, is inspired by a Romance in Roma in the early 1950’s and at the heart of it is the brand’s signature Patterns that can be seen on the interior of all products.
“Original Inspiration for the collection came just after I have seen William Wyler’s Vacanze Romane on my last trip to Rome ” Says Creative director and founder Mark Farhat. He continues to explain: “ Rome is the perfect city for a Romance. There is something about it that makes you fall in Love with it. I guess it all goes back to the glamorous Italian Lifestyle and their true appreciation to the good things in life whether it was beautifully crafted bags or simply food. ”
All interior fabric prints used in the designs of all Mark / Giusti bags and accessories have been derived from floor mosaics and intricate wall patterns borrowed from the architectural masterpieces of the Byzantine Era. This collection is by no means of any difference. Inspiration has been derived from the Basilica di San Lorenzo Fuori Le Mura (The Papal Basilica of Saint Lawrence outside the Walls). Before the present-day the basilica was constructed, the estate upon which it sits was once home to a small oratory built by Emperor Constantine I. The emperor built it over the site on which it was believed that Saint Lawrence was executed.
The portico, c. 1220, has Cosmati decoration by the Vassaletti family of craftsmen. The choir enclosure and pulpit also has Cosmati decoration, and there is also a fine Cosmati Paschal candlestick made in the 12th or 13th century, where the lining for this “ROMA-NZA” Collection have been derived from.
Since MARK / GIUSTI’s launch, the brand has been gaining great exposure in all the major fashion publications such as vogue, GQ, tattler as well as in national newspapers such as the evening standard and the daily telegraph magazines. It has been described as “ the new Goyard” and the brand is already a firm favorite amongst celebrities such as the actor Tom Hardy.
The Color Palette for the “ROMA-NZA” Collection is very colorful and powerful, as in a romance, and includes deep ruby color (RUBINO), rich mustard color (SENAPE) and a blue ocean color (Oceano). The Dominant leather for this collection is soft Timeless Nappa leather, which will feel and look even more gorgeous as it ages on the hand of the carrier.
