Originally born and raised on the Caribbean island Curacao, after which I moved to Europe and studied at the fashion department of the Royal Academy of fine arts Antwerp. While studying there my love grew for the Caribbean culture and lifestyle, which is now tightly woven into my aesthetics.
Creativity is something I grew up with on Curacao. I learned from a young age to utilize what I had and whatever I could find. I created toys, clothing, accessories from bits and pieces that were thrown away. The ‘new’ was only limited by my own mind. This has been till this day the way that I approach art and clothing. After spending a summer in South-Africa I got inspired by the seemingly endless beauty- and hair salons. Also the excess of advertisements and logos that colored the streets of Johannesburg appealed to me. I wanted to translate the struggle of life during the apartheid, as documented by the photographer David Goldblatt into a young, sporty collection by repurposing clothes, shoes, fake hair and beauty products.
