Legítim is a new clothing brand for women based in the heart of Barcelona. With a passion for the quality and finish of traditional dressmaking, we believe in the value of timeless, easy to wear clothes, designed and made to last.

With an International vision, Legítim are Madeleine Cooke, originally from London, Flora Grisar from Santiago de Chile and Ruben Lopez from Barcelona. With a shared drive for bringing traditional dressmaking to a new tribe, Madeleine and Flora quickly formed a dynamic working relationship sharing their diverse backgrounds and influences. Drawing on the colour, traditions, language. food, energy and humour of these cities, directing this rich inspiration into each collection.

Flora studied Industrial Design in Santiago de Chile, Costume Design at the European Institute for Design, Barcelona and trained with Laura Rivas, (dressmaker for Nina Ricci in the 1970′s.) She has also worked for various Catalan production companies in Film, Theatre, TV and Advertising.
Madeleine studied Fine Art Printmaking at the Royal College of Art, lectured in Art & Design at Kingston University, and worked in the design sector as a Business Manager and Operations Director for both established and start-up companies in London.

Mosaic 2012

‘Mosaic’ reflects the soul of Legítim, taking on the fresh spirit and beauty of Barcelona.

The abstract lines and shapes which come together to create each design, have been inspired by select forms and patterns, including traditional catalan modernist ceramic tiles, exquisite crystal formations and abstract architecture. Each item creating a unifying image of symmetry, and a linear quality, complimenting the curves of the body to create an elegant and striking silhouette.

Handmade using high quality fabrics, incorporating a range of silk colour combinations, and thoughtfully constructed with completely mix and match designs, the collection presents a series of fun and playful expressions, worn individually, or as two pieces to create a complete, or contrasting look.
