Karina Nasywa is a designer and a poetic filmmaker born and raised from Jakarta, Indonesia. Folktales, films and family history are the musings that influence her work the most often. During her studies in the Bandung Institute of Technology, where she majored in textile design, she spent time experimenting and exploring the usage of discarded scrap fabrics and materials. From there, Karina was able to develop a romantic style of design that incorporates this technique, often implementing this methodology with tulle, weaving and hand embroidery. Currently, Karina’s work is focused on questioning what it means to be a Southeast-Asian designer and how one can adapt their heritage into contemporary wear.
