Joowon was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to New York City in 2013 to study fashion design in Parsons School of Design. She graduated from Parsons School of Design in 2017, and became a growing menswear designer. She pursuits clean, simple and wearable silhouettes with hand craft details. In addition, she is in love with developing prints and embroidery or beading layouts. All of her collection is inspired by herself. Especially, the recent collection, Narcissist, shows her design aesthetic and hand craft skills. As a menswear designer, she tries to collaborate couture details with clean silhouette.

#Narcissist

My concept is about Narcissism (Narcissist). Narcissist starts from the Greek mythology Narcissus. Narcissus was cursed by god and saw his reflection in a small pond, and fell in love with his own reflection. I could easily connect myself and Narcissus because he fell in love with his reflection, and I sometime fall in love with myself through window or phone camera. I didn't admit the fact that I'm a Narcissist at first because I used to complain my appearance and attitude. I realized that hating myself is killing me, so I tried to loving myself and turned into a Narcissist.
Since the collection is all about me, so I designed clean, modern and wearable silhouette, which is what I like and what I usually wear. There are floral prints through my whole collection. I was thinking Narcissism is kind of a delusional disorder because everything is only happening in my mind. Therefore, I want to give an illusion through the motif. When you look at it, it looks like floral patterns, but when you look closely, there are three different selfies.
