James Hillman, having studied fashion and textiles since the age of 15, has always been experimental. Whilst at school studying dress-making and textiles he tried his hand at creating with unusual fabrics by working with unconventional materials such as cling film, wax and stitching. His keen eye for detail has prevailed with Hillman placing emphasis on high quality detailing and unusual fabrics such as waxed cottons with resistant finishes, hand-dyed denims and fish leather (perch); materials not usually found in clothing which are then transformed and adapted to both clothing and accessories.

After an exceptional grade from his foundation study, Hillman went on to study at Central St Martins. Whilst studying, Hillman also undertook internships with Balmain, Moon Young Hee and B.C.B.G Max Azria where he contributed to designing and creating clothing for the collections which have since been shown in magazines such as Vogue and PURPLE fashion magazine.
