At Filanda n.18 we explore the narratives woven into textile crafts. Each collection is centred around a textile tradition and infused with inspiration from modern art, architecture and personal stories.

Filanda comes from filo or “thread” in Italian. Filande were spinning mills active between the 18th and 20th century in northern Italy. N. 18 is our founder Francesca’s family house number in Veneto, Italy. Part of the house used to be a Filanda and now it’s where our studio is based.

Each collection takes approximately a year to bring to life. We start with studying the historical background of a specific textile tradition and then we work with selected master artisans across geographies to design the crafts components. The journey ends in our studio in Italy where the collection is designed and assembled. Each collection brings together over 5 different workshops across geographies - family-size manufacturers in northern Italy, women-run craft communities in India, lace restorers in Venice, ikat weavers in Margilan, Uzbekistan.
