THE HUMAN SPECTRUM - NOTHING ELSE THAN AN EXTENSION OF YOU
At it’s core, “THE HUMAN SPECTRUM” seeks to redefine the conventional ways of approaching the body and movement, transcending established forms and techniques. It delves into the aesthetics of the body, unearthing its vulnerabilities and weaknesses, while embracing the interconnectedness of all things. It is a deliberate art form of expression, where every movement is imbued with energy and significance.
In essence, this collection is a profound and evocative art form that challenges societal norms, and celebrates the diversity of human emotions. It is a mesmerizing exploration of the human experience, an extension of oneself.
Once I embarked on this project, I was immediately captivated and moved by the artistry of Butoh, a unique form of Japanese dance theatre. Where common features of the artistic medium include playful and grotesque imagery, taboo topics, and extreme or absurd environments. Traditionally, Butoh is performed with meticulous attention to detail, enveloped in white body makeup, and executed with slow, hyper-controlled movements, evoking a sense of otherworldly presence.
Through my collection, I aspire to convey the raw power of these emotions, woven into each character's pieces, with the hope of leaving an indelible impression on the beholder. I aim to convey the power and beauty of this art and ignite a sense of wonder and exploration in others, as we delve into the limitless possibilities of THE HUMAN SPECTRUM.
