Darin hachem

This collection revolves around the work of Saloua Raouda Choucair, Lebanese artist of the mid 1950s. She is one of the first abstract artists of the Middle East, and our interest in her stems from her sculptural abstract phase combining western abstraction with Islamic Aesthetics.
Her works of wood and clay connect to the identity of the brand, continuing its connection to Earth in terms of materials and colors.
The ss20 pieces were thought of in terms of combinations, a piece within a piece within a detail like the interlocking structures of Choucair that end up forming a Unique whole, but still open to different interpretations.
The shapes continue the game of organic and more angular details like the big collars and cuffs with some fabrics more fluid than others.
The main color focus stems out of the colors of sandy Earth with shades and tones of beige, either shiny or opaque, with an added texture, but also with one fabric being naturally tinted in collaboration with a natural dye artist in Italy with “Quebracho” a colored mixture obtained from a combination of plants.
Saloua Choucair’s work of Art combine geometric shapes with more organic ones, that allow an interaction from the spectator, and the ability to play with the pieces seen one by one but also as a group representing unity. Pieces put into one as the Lebanese people’s separation during civil war trying to maintain a unique country.
