Julie Thissen (1989) is a French/Dutch product designer. After graduating from ENSCI-Les Ateliers in PARIS in 2013, she set up her design studio in rotterdam and launched the label the cyclist, which focuses on accessories for urban cyclists and commuters. Her work revolves around blending together functionality, aesthetics, ornaments and patterns. By setting her focus on materials and production processes, her design approach aims to integrate two fundamental principles: a product has to be practical to use and pleasing to the senses.

Why bags and accessories meant for urban commuters in general and for cyclists in particular? The motivation behind this is quite a personal one, driven by an obsession for bags, combined with her fondness for cycling and her strong interest for materials and production techniques. As a city cyclist, she didn't want to choose between a stylish bag or a practical one. And more than rare are the ones which are both elegant and well adapted to a busy city cyclist's life style. Until now.
