convivial project provides a platform to get involved in designing a personal, thoughtful and unique item. Each product is carefully crafted in the UK.

convivial project’s collection Fractional Motion examines algorithms and mathematical formulas that can be used via a digital interface to design unique and surprising patterns with an infinite choice of stunning colours, shapes and textures.

London based brand convivial project was co-founded by Ann-Kristin Abel and Paul Ferragut in 2014. The experimental design studio crafts bespoke goods and wearable pieces utilising innovative technology.

Bringing together their diverse backgrounds in programming, graphic design, fashion design and trend research, their collective and innovative approach merges well-defined disciplines. Driven by a mindset that is focused on developing technology that is poetic, inclusive and relevant, convivial project bridges the gap between the maker and the user.

Convivial Project is an initiative by Paul Ferragut, Graphic Designer and Creative Technologist and Ann-Kristin Abel, Fashion Designer and Researcher. Both graduates from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design they have set out to explore their passion for innovation in design through the use of technology. Their vision is not just to sell designs but to empower people to generate patterns themselves which will then be digitally printed and finished in the UK. To realize this, they have created a web application (www.convivialproject.com/collections/create) and an iPad app. With its set of modifiable parameters it enables the user to customise colours and patterns and create a unique print of their own. Generative Scarves

convivial project combines emerging technologies and design to craft innovative items. convivial project designed Generative Scarves using an algorithm commonly used to digitally generate patterns of the natural world. Characterised by unexpected and unique results the bespoke program convivial sampled allows to generate intricate visual landscapes of melting shapes and colours.

The scarves are digitally printed and finished in the UK. The materials are either 100% Silk Habotai, a fabric with an elegant sheen or 100% Silk Georgette, a lighter fabric with a matte appearance. The dimensions of the scarves are 120cm x 120cm.

convivial project designed three different editions:

Colour Field
The series Colour Field is characterised by vivid colours and dynamic patterns. Inspired by abstract expressionism the scarves are evocative of paint melting on a canvas.

Serpentine
Taking inspiration from natural forms such as rocks, minerals and landscapes Convivial Project created a series of prints minimal in their choice of colour but rich in detail and expressive in patterning.

Waving at Machines
Reminiscent of oil spills and liquid metal this new aesthetic inspired theme features scarves with striking prints and colours. In these fluid patterns natural shapes merge with a post-digital, computer generated aesthetic.
