The collection represents stereotypes of so-called “Russianness” in a different light. It’s the combination of opposite worlds, one based on tradition and one on modernity. Inspiration for the outfits came from the Russian national costume before the Great Revolution: in those last days of the empire, technical progress was influencing every aspect of life including peasants’ clothing, but traditions were still very strong and hard to eradicate. I wanted to reflect that conversion by mixing archaic shapes, ornaments and techniques with modern details, accessories and materials.
