Skin A/W 2012/13

Lisa Colpaert’s AW 2012-2013 collection is inspired by Charles Perrault's fairy tale, Donkey Skin, and the eponymous film made in 1970 by Jacques Demy. The shift from the princess wearing dresses in the color of the weather, the moon and the sun, to bare donkey skin reflects a specific idea of clothes as tool for deception and masquerade. Clothes, in the tale of Donkey Skin, are highly performative: because the princess wears a donkey skin she is perceived as obnoxious and poor and has to become a pig-keeper. Her clothes allow her to hide her true identity.
