New Rules

Walking down the hallways of my middle and high school years of private school, I didn’t feel comfortable in what I was wearing. I felt restricted, forced to fit a standard that didn’t allow me to express myself and show who I really was. As a shy girl, with clothing being my form of self expression, to me, it was how I spoke. I embraced my personal disposition by shortening my skirt, adding things to my uniform, like lace trims and tying my necktie the way boys were required to tie them, because that’s the way I liked it.
