With a background in studio art and a great admiration for couture techniques, Kim Lai graduated from FIT in 2008 and immediately started designing beading and embroidery embellishments for the top fashion houses in NY with a strong focus on structural fabric manipulation. Her aesthetic appreciation of vintage, avant garde, and high fashion inspired her to create her own line of accessories. The result is unexpected beauty tinged with an edge in her combinations of sheer organza, soft chiffon, with metal findings and Swarovski crystals. Her trademark look is found in the delicately outlined edges of her pieces; edges that have been burnt to create the effect of a watercolor sketch come to life. Each piece is painstakingly hand made with care to ensure the dreamlike, ethereal quality of her pieces.
