BARQUE is designed and developed for people who have outgrown the offerings of traditional American menswear stores. The BARQUE customer has worked hard to get where he is and now can afford to spend more on clothing. He still loves the classics, but has developed his own sense of style through years of exploration, experimentation and self-discovery. And he wants updated, stylish looks with an international flavor, made from the high-quality materials, and with excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. BARQUE is aimed at men who are looking to upgrade their old-fashioned suits and conventional classics to something that is modern but firmly grounded in the traditions they grown up with. They want a better, more fashion-forward lifestyle without having to spend a fortune and stray far from their comfort zone of dressing.

Under the supervision of Taiwanese-American designer Gilbert Chen, a Parsons graduate, the menswear label BARQUE was conceived to supply menswear that offers an original, modern interpretation of the classics- re-interpreting them into a fresh, updated look without losing their essence. Gilbert wanted to design menswear that caters to people who look for special items at an affordable price, with interesting, unpretentious detailing. With experience living in the US, Europe and Asia, he understands customers' needs from a global perspective. So he is uniquely suited to craft a business casual line that is fresh in its fabrication, classics-based, design-oriented, and great for mix-and-match.

The name BARQUE grew from the word BARK, the outer covering of a tree and an early material used by mankind to make clothing. Substituting QUE for K is meant to represent the modern interpretation of the classic spirit that the brand embodies. BARQUE evokes the use of natural materials and the days of serious craftsmanship in clothes making.
