Spanish fashion designer Balbina Arias began designing under her brand Zarzaparrilla in 2009, with her first of clothing and headdresses collection. She took her lessons from Sevilla de Moda Fashion School, El Estudio from La Casita de Wendy in Madrid, Mª del Carmen Merat's dressmaking atelier in Estepa and Eva Romero's millinery workshop in Seville.

Balbina Arias conceives Fashion in a whole concept in which designing cannot be separated from dressmaking. She usually puts her background as a biologist and her particular love of nature into her creations. To her, Fashion is not about wearing Balbina Arias but making the woman to be as one with the clothes she is wearing.

THE CUT

This collection began with a study os the act of Cutting. To cut the paper for patterns as well as to cut the fabrics and then transform the pieces by sewing them altogether into a brand new garment, everyone in its right place. Only by making a good cut can you be approached to the art of dressmaking.
The cut as we need it in the making of a dress- Scissors. We proceed to divide a whole thing into different parts, discarding the remainings that will not be needed anymore.
And the cut as in life. As when you experience something so intense that leads you to go through a kind of a personal transition. Taking for granted that cutting can be accepted sometimes as a path you have to walk on before even think of coming out. So then it comes the act of cutting as a rebirth, for when you cut something off you can start over again. And therefore, the analisys, the looking inside oneself to find your inner strengh to enhance the light in you. Cut as renewal, as a learning and as a surviving.
