Born in Dominican Republic, Angely Martinez is an award winning jewelry designer based in New York City. Creating works that are big and bold and out of this world, her work is influenced by the beauties of nature and the world of fantasy with a touch of romanticism.
She draws inspiration from the avant-garde, the Baroque period, theater, dance performances, and films. Her favorite artists/ designers are Frida Kahlo, Alexander McQueen, Fragonard, and Rembrandt.
Angely is currently working in the Jewelry Industry. She is now junior goldsmith at Reinstein ross, and previously worked as a production jeweler at wwake. She's a participant of Bijules Incubator, a talent development program by Jules Kim from Bijules, where she built VERMILLION, her debut collection. In 2018, she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology's Jewelry Design program. She also holds a B.S. in Business Management and Marketing from Long Island University - Brooklyn. After exploring with different mediums while pursuing her Bachelor's, she found her voice as a jeweler after graduation.
FLOR ÉPOCH (“Flower” in Spanish and “Époch” form the Belle Époch Period) is the 2nd collection by Angely Martinez. Inspired by the Victorian and Belle Epoch Periods, the collection showcases flowers, insects and the female figure in the form of cameos and carved gemstones, traditionally an old technique. With this collection, the artists seeks to bridge the past and the present into her point of view as a designer by giving new life to these stones. The concept of the collection began in early 2019 and was handcrafted by the designer over the course of a year. Angely worked with gem dealers in NYC’s Diamond District and lapidaries from around the world to bring her vision to light. The idea to work with carved gems is something she had been interested in doing since her days at FIT, where she was assigned to design her own carvings as part of a school project.
