Agnes Saaby Thomsen is a Copenhagen based fashion designer. Her work takes inspiration in nature, the female body and the materials she works with. Agnes works closely with photography and textiles and uses both as tool for creating designs that floats between fashion, costume and art.

Feminine Fungi

Feminine Fungi is a fantasy where subjects have been taken over by fungi spreading around the body to create feminine fungi creatures. Unlike cordyceps invading and killing ants and other insects, Feminine Fungi is not a hostile takeover, but a symbiotic merger creating strong feminist creatures. The visual inspiration comes from the fungi of northern Europe where I am from, collected through photos of the forest floor in Sweden and Denmark. The lamellae of the fungi becomes an armour that grows around the feminine body diverting the male gaze and playing with femininity in an abstract and fantastical way.
