ADAM JONES

I am a freelance womenswear designer with a wabi-sabi approach to design. I am an enthusiastic, hardworking self motivated person, with the determination and self-belief to work in the fashion industry, I proved this to myself when I was selected to show my final degree collection at The Best Of Show and The Gala Show at GRADUATE FASHION WEEK 2013. I enjoy the challenges design creates and I engage competently with every task I am faced with. I am happy to work independently or equally within a team, I can always be relied on and I am excited about a future in fashion.
My graduate collection is a celebration of the mundane, it sees the beauty in things others overlook around them. inspiration comes from everyday life on the street, the layers upon layers of peeling paint on old walls, discarded rubbish or vomit from the night before, and stray cats hanging around the bins waiting for pigeons. I call it a wabi-sabi view of great Britain.
I am someone who likes to work with my hands I am a confident pattern cutter, able to work flat and three dimensionally using the stand and I have accomplished sewing skills. I work fast and see every task through to the end, and to a high standard. I work a lot with domestic and Dubied knitting machines, I consider knitting and leatherwork an area of expertise, and I have experience with digital print using Photoshop. Surface design is something I also spend a lot of time on, using strange techniques and materials, I have an almost crafty approach, mixing found items with quality leathers and knitting, and I even work with yarn into leather. As much as I enjoy putting my skills to use I am just as keen to learn new skills.
As well as design and production, I am enthralled by the process of research and concept building, taking, and gathering images and fabrics, developing my own fabrics, creating collage and drawing.
I am a very inquisitive person, always in search of a cultural thrill, whether it comes from a gallery, film or music. I enjoy travelling, I am always out taking in my surroundings, taking pictures, I like to be in a big city, whether it be Manchester, London, Paris or Berlin, even though I hail from the countryside and am very much interested in nature. I find constant inspiration in the mundane nuances of city life that it’s dwellers seem oblivious to.
