Who is Van Jos? Four sisters seated in a row, all wearing the same dress. The height of dullness, the second girl in the row – Jos – thought. Later she would do things differently.

She had always loved fashion, because it offered so many possibilities. She took her aunt’s hand-me-downs and made new things from them. She learned her trade from the nuns at the housekeeping school, but her style was too daring for her to fit in at an atelier.

Ideas arise naturally. As she sits in a meadow, running a lovely piece of worsted through her fingers, Jos gets inspired. She can translates even a pretty door into a blouse. Its striking characteristic? The contrast, material and shapes. Each Van Jos item is unpredictable and striking.

The Van Jos label belongs to entrepreneur Rosa van Ederen, Jos’s daughter. Follow your heart, Jos told her. And who would ignore her mother’s wise words? And so Rosa set up Van Jos, alongside her work as a photographer.
