For a long time, haute couture and denim where opposites. Where haute couture was exclusive fashion for elite and focused on craftsmanship and quality in fabric, denim was originally meant for physical work. Denim fabric was cheap and lasted long.
Monique de Bruin mixed both of these themes for the collection 'Convex | Concave'. She looked at denim details for inspiration and found finishings like rivets, jeans buttons, zippers and belt loops, but also all sorts of patterns in stitches and a chain stich. For example, she created her own buttonholes by using a couture way of a welt buttonhole combined with a jeans buttonhole. In the collection, there is also a piece inspired by dungarees. This way, Monique uses the best of both worlds.

The organic shapes found by draping determine the silhouette. These shapes are also put into two-dimensional prints, using lasercut technique, flock print and coatings. In contrast with these organic shapes and prints, graphic lines lines are used. These lines are shown in different ways, like fabrics, colors and stitches.
The clothes are designed for characters, not for gender. This is why the collection is worn by both women and men.
