Daria Zalivako was born in Leningrad, grew up and studied in Moscow and Britain, and later lived in Barcelona. She started her career as an architect travelling all the time, finding her source of vital energy in moving all over the world. In 2015 she went to Northern Africa where she visited the Maghreb countries learning more about the life of local people. Once Daria was invited to a Moroccan wedding held in the middle of a desert. She was impressed with the design and patterns of hand-made carpets which seemed to embody the warmth of the festive reception. Daria decided to share this experience in representing hospitality with her friends and so the kaftan brand ZALIVAKO came to exist. Today the designer lives in Paris while travelling globally and receiving more and more orders from her like-minded friends from all over the world, which made her think about extending her production and entering the international market. To implement this idea, she found a small family-run manufacture in Barcelona, where people have a perfect understanding of traditions and the skill of putting their hearts into knitted clothes. The first collection of double-sided Italian cotton kaftans, ZALIVAKO 2017, is already available to order at the website zalivako.com.
