Graduation year

Yulu Hou is a fashion designer based in New York City. Her work explores the intersection of fashion and gender norms, particularly focusing on the empowerment of female bodybuilders and challenging societal perceptions of femininity and masculinity. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, her work prominently features geometric designs that serve to mask and anonymize the traditionally gendered aspects of the body, such as muscles and curves. This design approach not only protects the wearer's identity but also challenges the restrictive societal 'boxes' confining women. Yulu's creations incorporate voluminous, wave-like layers that dynamically represent muscle growth and feminine softness, blurring the lines between femininity and masculinity. Yulu's designs are a cultural exploration of how gender is perceived, pushing the boundaries of femininity and strength and integrated into fashion.
