Munich-based jewelry designer Julia Weiskönig brings her Upcycling leather jewelry to a
new level and offers a new and innovative collection.
Munich, November, 2013: Inspired by the idea of Bauhaus, an unusual encounter and its
recently completed goldsmiths course, Julia Weiskönig has decided to go one step further
with her leather jewelry.
I made my very first jewelry from a second-hand leather tie years ago. On a flight to L.A. I
was inspired by the sight of a tie of a Stewart, which brought me back to the idea of my first
jewelry collection“: A progressive alternative to ties, bow ties and cufflinks. This created a
very elegant and avantgarde version of constricting, almost boring necklace." says the
designer. In her new collection, she combines delicate, high-quality leather scraps with solid
gold and silver and fuses these contrasting materials to exclusive jewelry.
First, the little gems look like classic cufflinks, but when you look closely at the small design
geniuses they turn out to be exclusive clip buttons. The hand-forged miracles are provided
with a narrow groove at the back and are simply to be pulled on a button.
Here they serve as a stylish alternative to neckties, scarves and necklaces and give shirt or
blouse that certain something. The refined to the jewelery is the small window for the
replaceable leather applications.
The collection includes three pieces of jewelry in the shape of triangle, circle and square,
respectively in 925 sterling silver and 925 sterling silver with gold plating. "The beauty of the
jewelry pieces is that they are so diverse. It is the unisex look of the Button Jewelry that
works equally for women and men and offers space for a very personal interpretation. " says
the designer.
A major focus is established in the way of the production line of the jewelry as well. Far
away from the "Made in China" industrial mass production, the entire collection is made in
meticulous handwork of young goldsmiths in Germany.
With her Button Jewelry Julia Weiskönig demonstrates a flair for design and exclusivity of
recycled materials, where leather scraps are processed into a special visual and tactile
jewelry experience with a great attention to detail: "I only use leather scraps that are useless
for companies or others." This idea distinguishes Weiskönig Jewelry from other jewelry
labels and runs now like a red thread through their entire line of jewelry, which the jewelry
designer remains true even in her exclusive precious Button Jewelry collection.

Weiskönig was launched in January 2012. "Out of a need, breathing new life into a secondhand
leather tie again, the idea of manufactured jewelry made from leather was born. From
then on, the concept of jewelry design has changed for me and evolves over again. "
