Chandni Vora is a recent graduate of Kingston University having studied a BA Fashion.
Her debut graduate collection was showcased at the prestigious Graduate Fashion Week, where she was also nominated for the Mulberry accessories award.
Her graduate collection “When you’re a schizophrenic you never dine alone..” is based on a man suffering from schizophrenia who speaks vividly of six voices inside his head, taking the form of a six look capsule collection depicting these six individual characters.
The starting point stemmed from a variety of films relating to mental asylums which threw up white as a key colour, counter acted by purples and minty greens. Fencing uniforms were a key inspiration, utilising the ‘half’ element, asymmetry and D ring straps. In light
of the ‘schizophrenic’ nature of the collection, elements of workwear and tailoring were also touched upon to emphasize the difference in characters and personalities.
The inclusion of accessories seemed almost instinctive with Chandni’s family background in textiles and accessories, resulting in an innovative and eccentric sub collection of leather bags.
Chandni believes in a fresh approach towards fashion achieved through creative concepts and the appreciation of the fundamentals of menswear. She seeks inspiration from location, film, photography and art for an informed and forward thinking result.
