I have been in complete awe of the unobvious beauty of accessories ever since I was a little kid. I remember my favorite toys being my grandfather's leather briefcase, my grandmother's coin purse that hung around her waist all day, and pretty much all the handkerchiefs in the house. I would pick them up, drop paint, stitch flowers and initials, and throw some glitter as a hobby. These little things, coupled with the constant encouragement from my family since a very young age, gave me the confidence to take up design as a career and eventually create my label.
My years as a Leather Design student at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi and also at London College of Fashion in 2018, where I pursued a course in Millinery, exposed me to the relentless hard work that goes into building a 'conscious' brand from scratch and the importance of learning from people of various design disciplines from across the world.
Fuelling my love for heritage, sustainability, and minimalism, STEM was born after four years of a life lived in deep visualization of aesthetics, understanding local craftsmanship, and researching about ethically and responsibly sourced materials. We have a lot ahead of us as a brand, but what we have achieved so far (in about a year) is proof that craft and culture has a league of its own.
