Sorapol

Tevana, which means 'Midnight Garden' in Sanskrit, inspired Sorapol’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Set within the Himavanta, a mythical forest that surrounds the base of Mount Meru, Tevana is filled with mythological creatures and ornate architecture, representing the Buddhist heaven in Thai culture.

This collection highlights the lush and opulent surroundings of the forest, through the use of rich tones of purple, blues and highlights of silver and yellow, with hints of nude and coral, allowing a sense of strength and warmth to reign. The collection is influenced by the Thai story of Princess Manora. Princess Manora is a Kinaree, a half female and half bird creature, who bathed in a waterfall and was ensnared by a travelling hunter and delivered to a Prince of a nearby kingdom. The Kinaree is an ethereal being that is a traditional symbol of feminine beauty, grace and accomplishment.

In using sumptuous silks, teamed with more experimental PVC, metallic leathers, resin and nylon weaves, the brand propels classic silhouettes whilst experimenting with ideas of artistry and elegance as a manifestation of the brand's signature aesthetic. It allows the target client to embody femininity with empowerment.

The use of transparent materials and resin reflects the waterfall mentioned in the tale, while net, lace, leather and corsetry symbolise the capture of Manora. The luxury of hand embroidery and floral and crystal embellishments explores the beauty of nature that is integral to the story. Custom designed sequins reflect the shapes of the plants of the forest, and streamline the female figure.
