Pugnat stands for sophisticated knitwear. Stitch by stitch, row by row, and with her unmistakable and poetic sensibility, the designer Antje Pugnat tells a story of feminine beauty and subtle sexiness that is characterized by a passionate spirit, fine artistic craft and an uncompromising dedication to quality.Every hand-knitted piece is manufactured on-site in limited editions and epitomizes the process of individualized, meticulous production techniques. Pugnat's vision further unfolds in Antje's pattern cutting and draping skills, and her finely tuned colour palette. Each design showcases experimental details using only exclusive yarns and fabrics. Ethics of fair trade and local production are embraced and woven together with superb craftmanship to embody Pugnat's concept of luxurious designs for contemporary, independent women. Born in Hamburg in 1976, Pugnat studied clothing technology at the University of Applied Sciences. There, she discovered her passion for creating machine knits, which she pursued with a Master’s degree in Fashion Design Knitwear at the Royal College of Art in London. Since having established her studio in the centre of Berlin, Antje has spun her own vision of thick, voluminous pure cashmere hand-knits. These designs caught Wolfgang Joop's attention, resulting in the 2010 collaboration with his Wunderkid, which defined the core pieces for her label's future. Pugnat embodies two essentials: sculptural hand-knit pieces and Prêt-à-Porter garments made of Pugnats own idiosyncratic machine-knit fabrics. In 2011 Pugnat’s collection Conchula launched this trademark duo for the first time. Consequently, each new collection reflects Pugnat’s progression, imaginative refinements, and expanding repertoire.
