Priscilla Taveras, the designer behind the new womenswear label DAMA, focuses on producing minimalist inspired clothing with an urban edge that also aims to breakdown stereotypes and reflect the ever-changing role of women in the modern world.

Raised in the Bronx, NY by a mother who had emigrated from the Dominican Republic, Taveras’ first inspiration drew from her mother’s perseverance and courage in the face of hardships. The insistence on making a better life for her family while maintaining grace (and style) empowered Taveras to believe that nothing is beyond her reach; and DAMA was born.

While Taveras has no formal training in fashion design, she is able to bring interests that far extend the parameters of the Fashion Industry, allowing her to focus on fashion as it relates, informs, and draws insight from other creative disciplines. While embracing a minimalist approach to design with clean precise lines that reference modern architecture, the collection also has a concentration on various surface treatments lending to a very tactile finish.
