My name is Cæcilie Dyrup and I believe in good clothes. I believe in meaningful fashion, and beautiful details. Great details should accompany thoughtful clothes and they should be made of excellent materials.

Shape and stories play huge role in my approach to fashion creation- from the design process through to the development of a collection.
With distinct illustrative skills as one of my strongest assets, I incorporate the same creative energy and vision into fashion design that a great artist can channel into an empty canvas.
In my personal work, I always focus on telling the good story and communicating it through associations and emotions. I work with abstract storytelling through prints, colours and a very particular choice of pure materials. My universes often draw from my own small illustrative worlds departing from an emotion or a state of mind.

I believe that fashion should be celebrated, but most importantly: it should matter. Clothes should be cherished rather than thought of as disposable. I strive to contribute something worthwhile, beautiful and exciting to the fashion industry.

LOVE

My graduate collection was focused on LOVE – simply because we need more of it.

It was created during a very frustrating period in my life – I was angry at the world, angry at how people were treating each other and I kept asking myself: why? I felt I needed to share these emotions through a colorful, sensitive and romantic visualization. My point with this collection was to stop, think and embrace the important details of life. Life happens in the details.

In the concrete work with LOVE, I considered what love means to me, what it can mean to others, and how I can communicate my naïve thoughts about what I think is the most important emotion in life. Each piece was created with the intention of giving the wearer a fun, warm experience. I worked with clichés, and recognisable details merged into new contexts. Not only in the silhouette of the garment, but also by combining classic materials such as cashmere wool, with a sporty material like French terry.

The silhouettes for the collection was made out from flat 2D collages and directly translated into patterns and later experimenting with draping and how the flat pieces could work on the body. I worked very literally with my graphic material to see how “alive” I could make them. It went from being completely on paper to an interaction with the body in motion. Merging 2D and 3D. Most of the prints in the collection are analog screen prints. It is printed intentionally “incorrect” because I wanted to achieve a restless and hand drawn feel. I like what happens to a piece when you accept not being in complete control – just like an illustration. It can add that little bit of magic that makes it attractive to the eye every time you look at it.

LOVE is classic; it is forever, but it is also confusing and frustrating. It is difficult to understand, but it feels great when you think you do. I hope with this collection that I have put a few smiles on peoples faces. We need more of love in this fast pacing world.
