Rose Sutanto is an emerging designer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She revels in the strange and dark things in life, and thus derives the brand’s aesthetic from this little affinity of hers, which she affectionately dubs as 'dark glamour'. To her, fashion is a form of story telling, and her eponymous label exists to tell a story; In which the main character is a lady who is not afraid to provoke shock in others, yet still retains an elegant demeanour.

The label offers pieces that retain the whimsical aesthetic of couture, while still remaining practical in its form. Currently, all production is small scale and done personally as an ode to her neverending creative journey. Apart from limited ready to wear pieces, the label also works closely with clients to create an aesthetic that is to their fancy, yet still retaining the soul of the brand.

Latest Collection

In Bloom S/S 2016

The debut ready-to-wear collection consisting of five cocktail dresses, composed of tafetta, lace, and dashes of velvet ribbon to convey the delicate bloom of roses in the spring. The title of the collection is an ode to the brand’s eponymous name of Rose Sutanto; With the first collection debuting in spring, it symbolises the blooming of the brand, much like how the flowers would bloom. The collection also solidifies the dark glamour aesthetic of the brand, which is feminine yet edgy at the same time.

The blooming rose is liken to that of a young girl’s soul; the petals represent her delicate side, while the thorny stem represents her grit. When we see a rose we first see its petals, and some will naively fall for the belief that that is all there is to it. Combining feminine shapes with a dominantly black palette, the collection aims to give off an aura of fierce femininity, with the muse being a lady that combines her nice side and dark side to her advantage.
