KIMIRIS launches its Fall/Winter 2016 collection “Lost Youth”, inspired by the lone journey of Christopher McCandless.
Christopher McCandless always marched to the beat of a different drummer. Atypical and autonomous Christopher was an idealist; profoundly believing that life is best lived in solitude, with nature, a contrast from his wealthy suburb life. After completing his academic degree in higher education, he broke through from the confined walls built around him, finding himself entering the wilds of Alaska. He abandoned almost all of his possessions with nothing but little food and equipment. In his isolated voyage, he learnt that ‘Happiness is when it is shared’ and later on decided to return back to his hometown. An unexpected downturn occurred as he inadvertently poisoned himself from a lethal plant, rooting to his miserable death.
The collection mirrors the tough McCandless for independent, adventurous women with strong graphic prints on bulky and oversized silhouettes. Exaggerated lengths convey maturity and growth, with varied neoprene, parachute, mesh and jersey and the addition of strap detailing stems. Muted tones of forest green, ebony and greys and hues of iridescent skies signify McCandless’ journey of refraction and reflection.
