GIACOBBE is a Buenos Aires based womenswear brand founded in 2012 by Argentine designer Marcelo Giacobbe. Defined by its refined femininity, craftsmanship and custom embroidered fabrics, unique attention to detail can be seen in every collection. Inspiration is drawn from Argentine art and architecture.

After graduating with national and international recognition from the School of Arquitecture, design and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires, which led to receiving a scholarship at the SAGA Design Fur Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, Marcelo decided to launch his first collection (Fall Winter 2012) in Buenos Aires. In 2013 he presented in the Argentine Designers Show in New York during NYFW.

Since launching his namesake collection in 2012, GIACOBBE was honored by the Argentine Counsel on Fashion as a three-time recipient of the prestigious Silver Scissors Award. GIACOBBE has also appeared on the cover of magazines that include Brides (United States), Harper’s Bazaar Argentina, ¡Hola Argentina!, and Vanidades (Argentina) as well as online publications such as Vogue.com.

RARA AVIS

The Spring Summer 2015 collection, Rara Avis (Rare Birds), draws inspiration from the idea of the Golden Cage, as it applied to women in the 1950’s and their condition of social constraint in the home, and in their clothing. Restrained in the 50s, realities shifted toward a freer, more liberated space for women in the 1960s. The collection represents this progression of aesthetic and spirit.

In this collection GIACOBBE seeks to create dresses in the tradition of couture, which possess a natural ease for the wearer. The collection is realized in a palette of off-white, natural, black and pastels, accented with gold and silver. Lightness is captured in the use of double organza silk, washed silk, crepe de chine, silk shantung for light garments, silk and cotton for tailoring, as well as suede and leather.

The collection explores texture and structure. Garments are balanced; crepe de chine paired with woven chains. Simple shapes with silk pleats, the signature GIACOBBE suits. The avian cage is represented in various dresses, leading to the release of the hummingbird – the signature embroidery of the collection.
