Payal Shah’s passion for the fine jewellery industry was ignited as a young apprentice under her mother and father who worked in the luxury market as diamond consultants. From Singapore to Hong Kong, Shah would attend desk-side meetings, watching intently as her parents navigated the world of fine jewellery, all the while learning about the industry. She remembers being inspired by the thrill of a sale, but was even more enamoured by the creative process. She eventually went off to study Architectural Design in London and explored different dimensions and geometrics in design. And returned to Hong Kong after completion of studies to work in Hospitality Design firm as a Junior Designer creating furniture for renowned hotels in Asia. Along side she started exploring jewellery design creating small collections. What began for Shah as a part-time exploration of jewelry manufacturing turned into a career decision to leave her position as the junior designer to launch her own collection. Combining her knowledge of architectural design with the teachings she acquired under her entrepreneur parents, Shah launched L’Dezen Jewellery in 2011 at the age of 21 years old with the vision of becoming a global brand providing fashionable handmade diamond jewellery in 18-karat gold. Three years on and her collections have exhibited in major trade fairs and exhibitions worldwide, graced the pages of international fashion and jewellery magazines, and have been worn by Hollywood celebrities. Shah has established herself as an avant-garde of haute couture jewellery designer with pieces that are elegant yet exotic, gaining international recognition from dignitaries and collectors worldwide.
As a company founder and director, Shah demonstrates a sharp vision of where the brand is heading. As chief designer, she believes the beauty of her sophisticated designs lies in the exemplary craftsmanship of each piece, “It’s interesting to experience how a designer can change and influence the perception of a product by a consumer, how a design can add value to a material,” enthuses Shah. She thinks of her jewellery as special occasion pieces, which creatively blend luxurious materials with accessible designs. They empower the wearer with their striking beauty, which is always personal and unique. One of her many jewellery admirers Lady Gaga was wearing the ‘Bannerol’ earrings recently at the Golden Globes. ‘The creative mystique of my designs appeal to the independent modern woman who knows how to make a statement and is confident in her style.’
