Kaoru Oshima was born and raised in Tokyo. While she was studying Law at a university in Tokyo, she went to England as an exchange student, where she met high level of art and design. After gaining BA in Law, she went to London to start art foundation course and was permitted to Central St. Martins College in Textile Design. Through three years of study in knitting, she gained various internships to learn knitting techniques and how fashion industry works. When she graduated, she was chosen as a finalist of Texprint award and she got opportunities to exhibit her work at Premiere Vision in Paris, where she sold her designs to Diane Von Furstenberg in NYC. After freelancing for fashion designers in London, Kaoru decided to go to New York to study fashion design at Parsons School of Art. In the first year of her study, she was chosen as a finalist of Feel the yarn competition at Pitti Filati in Florence and her work is included in The Fundamentals of Fashion Design, published by AVA publishing. She also gained a summer internship at Diane Von Furstenberg. For her MFA collection, she was offered a sponsorship from Loro Piana with full support of fabrication and materials of her works. Kaoru is living and working in Tokyo, Japan after working for Men's Blacklabel in sweater design at Ralph Lauren in New York.
