SALLYYOUNGDESIGN

Grey Sheep

Sally Young celebrates the desire to be individual. Her use of colour, unique line and flattering forms communicate femininity, fun, style and class.

To construct her garments Sally uses a technique called ‘Felting’. ‘Felt’ refers to a non woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing wool fibres. In particular she uses a technique called ‘Nuno Felting’ which involves a handmade process of combining a natural fibre fabric with a raw wool fibre to create a one of a kind piece of material or seamless garment.

Sally started as a painter and sculptural artist who found the ancient art of felting and fell in love. Her love of fashion was soon combined with her new found love of felting. Predominately self taught, much practice has brought her to this time in her life now, where she is presenting her “Art to Wear” to the world.

Sally’s designs are handmade and environmentally ethical, using all natural fibres, vintage silk, cotton, Australian merino, alpaca, silk, angora, cashmere and low impact dyes. Each piece is made and designed in her Mumballup home studio in the picturesque Preston Valley in the South West of Western Australia.
