CHARMS BALTIS JEWELLERY

Grey Sheep

Whilst born in Sydney, Charms spent most of her childhood on rural properties, imbuing her with a close connection for the surrounding environment, drawing not only inspiration, but also finding a certain peace in nature.

She developed a lust for gemstones at an early age, “Visiting my grandfather who worked for the opal mines in lightening ridge meant a tour of his beautiful opal specimens where on occasion he would give me opals in a jar filled with water, they were multihued glistening rocks that would magically flicker in the light. For my birthday when I was a child he gave me a beautiful box of gemstones and minerals with their names and composition. This instilled a deep love and respect for these treasures that we draw from the earth.”

At the age of 19 Baltis had her fortune told, her life’s work would be to create jewellery that drew on the healing properties of gemstones and symbolism, but it wasn’t until she turned 25 that she discovered the intricate art of jewellery making.

In 2010 Charms won the Fashion Exposed Debut designer award and was given the opportunity to show the collection on the runway in Sydney for Fashion Palette. At this time Charms began to research the heavy toll the jewellery industry was having on the environment and human rights. Charms made a commitment to designing and producing sustainable and ethical jewellery.

With diverse influences from ancient Ayurvedic healing and colour therapies, alchemic symbols, nature and architecture Baltis consiously creates thoughtful and yet simplified designs. Blending this style with sustainable business practices has ensured her jewellery is not solely focused on aesthetic value, it is created to restore the soul.

Charms has been featured on the websites fashionising , Frosting magazine, fashion review, Yen mag , along with countless blogs. Her designs have been used on the sets of films with Harrison Ford and Keifer Sutherland and have been worn by celebrities Jess Mauboy and Erin Wasson.

Cornerstones Jewellery was opened on the South Coast of Australia in 2011 as a retail outlet for Charms Baltis Jewellery and other covetable hand selected accessories.
