During my study at ArtEZ fashion design in Arnhem I discovered what I'm most passionate about as a designer. My designs are based on my interests in functionality, sustainability and movement. Since I'm a concept thinker I like to challenge myself and make cross overs to other disciplines such as graphic and product design. I think its valuable to view a design from several perspectives or fields. It could only be an addition to my reach.

CROSS THE LINE

Human mobility causes a fusion of cultural identities. Sometimes there are possibilities and recourses, sometimes there is fear. Whatever it is that makes people move all over the world, it is reality.
Let's face this exchange of cultural identities and absorb all the new points of view. To often I experience our society to be so closed for any kind of exchange. Are we hesitant to lose our identity? We might use some courage and cross the line. Every perception could be a supplement to our reach. And every perception has a truth.
Shoes dipped in Dutch culture show my roots. To create the removable pointy toes I collaborated with SLEM, an international innovation and training centre for the footwear industry. In their centre I learned how to make a digital design and to realise them with a 3D printer.
Cross over, cross the line, connect, exchange…
The bands, woven through the fabrics replace closed seams. The pieces can transform by using or removing the band. The wearer is free to form. Woven bands connect and woven patches form. Everything can be revised. Cross the line.

* The leather I used in my collection originates from Smit & zoon. Smit & zoon develops and produces chemicals used in the manufacturing and finishing of leather. They have a significant share in the global trade of vegetable and animal oils. They provided me with waste, and overproduction, leather.
