Cordes is showcasing her new collection ‘CELLUSION’ based on the theme of bacteria and other micro living organisms and their connections with one another. The name is a composition of cells + cohesion. Each of the looks showcased belongs to one bacteria and is paired with an element in the natural environment which we can see without microscope. ‘CELLUSION’ explores in what ways different bacteria are harmful as well as helpful to humans and the planet. Movements of the performance show how the bacteria move and how social and active they are amongst one another.
Each of the looks has its main character and a sibling to theirs. The 8 main looks are:
ROSEOBACTERIA x PLANKTON
CHLOROFLEXI X SEABED LILLIES
SAROMA X PTOTOZA
MYXOBACTERIA X SLUGS X WORMS
CYANOBACTERIA X CORAL
PAENIBACCILUS X FUNGHI X MOSS SPONGE
DEINOCCUS X GHOST BACTERIA CREATUREMYXOBACTERIA
AQUIFICAE X NUDIBRANCHS
Paenibaccilus and Myxobacteria are soil bacteria with social activity. Paenibaccilus helps plants grow, is a bio fertiliser and can suppress growth of harmful funghi. Myxobacteria is a slime bacteria, therefore paired with slugs. It lives in swarms and eats other microbes. Myxobacteria as well as Aquificae move by gliding. Both are connected to slugs. Myxobacteria with in soil living slugs and Aquificae with sea slugs, both are shelless. Both the bacteria are not harmful to humans. Aquificae is a unicellular watermaker and may only sting humans like nudibranchs. Aquificae is as a carbon fixer good for the environment, although it can destroy coral. It can survive in hard environmental conditions and so can Myxobacteria (7) and Deinoccus (6). Deinoccus (6) is resistant to environmental hazards. It can live in extremes of heat and cold, it eats nuclear waste, Deinoccus is the strongest bacteria existing in the world. It lives in all living arrangements, soil, sea, air. Deinoccus is connected with Chloroflexi since being build up from photosynthetic sulphur. Chloroflexi (2) is related to star fish and therefore paired with seabed lilies, it resides in waters, in lakes, rivers and hot springs, in sulphur baths. Chloroflexi eats Plankton which is a paired looked with Roseobacteria. It is also residing in waters, often in polar regions, as a free living individual with a community structure. I eats plastic and is therefore good for our planet’s ecosystem. Cyanobacteria is also good for the ecosystem, it lives on algae and is attached to coral and is toxic to humans. It lives through photosynthesis and lives in a power play with coral. Coral steals its oxygen. Coral is the oldest organism on or planet, is a healthy part of the ecosystem but can give sea lions seizures. It can become one with Sacoma. Sacoma steals its algae for its own photosynthesis. Its living arrangements are similar to Deinoccus, both reside in either soil, water or air. Sacoma can be transmitted through air, it can live on freshwater algae. Sacoma is paired with Protozoa which maintains soil’d fertility by releasing nutrients through digesting bacteria, it is a free living and parasitic.
