Miriam Laubner (b. 1982), originally from Karlsruhe, Germany, completed her Bachelor of fine Arts at the University of Applied Sciences in Pforzheim, Germany (2008).Throughout her degree, she completed a one year internship with the Berlin-based designer Michael Michalsky. After successfully graduating she was working for the Berlin-based fashion label Kaviar Gauche. Subsequently, she was given the opportunity to work as full time fashion PR assistant for the PR agency häberlein & mauerer, Berlin. Representing companies such as IMG, Kostas Murkudis and Ben Sherman. To hone her skills, she made the adventurous move to New York City in 2012, to earn a more solid fashion experience at a global level and started her role at the NY based label Tim Hamilton. After returning to Europe Miriam decided to move to London where she was freelancing for the fashion label Être Cécile. Living and working in NY and London, where fast fashion is very popular and the consumption ex ordinary high, gave her the inspiration to explore alternative design strategies, which motivated her to enter the Masters Program at ESMOD Berlin (2014). Miriam´s vision is to bring traditional craftsmanship, a cultural & sustainable material together with design.

„Iluserissoq “ showcases the worth of an ethical, sustainable material. This material being seal fur from Greenland.

Focus of the collection is to create a balanced out manifoldness. The culture and tradition of Greenland´s Inuit were an important indicator for this collection and source of inspiration to create something new by keeping a clear connection to the initial point.

It is important to emphasize the origin and above all the background of the material. Furthermore, highlighting the heritage of seal fur from Greenland in combination with European design aesthetic. Seal fur in combination with fine wool and muslin relativists the richness and heaviness of this material. Implementing new techniques and modification offers a large spectrum of variety and finishing effects.

The culture and tradition of Greenland´s Inuit were an important indicator for this collection. It is crucial, not imitating or even duplicating the beautiful embellishments and embroidery work as the placement and choice of colour still has a relevant meaning and non verbal communication. Rather, using it as a source of inspiration to create something new by keeping a clear connection to the initial point at the same time.

This capsule collection offers a diversity with under twenty women´s wear pieces such as shorts, waistband belt, skirt, trousers, tops, jumper, cape, a coat with a vest, pants and tops.
Each style has a different focus and emphasis.

The aim of the concept is to combine two complete different areas of tradition as well as culture.
