Mario Guerrero was featured in the August issue of VOGUE Magazine Latin America. The article referenced Mario’s recent work, which used a man’s button down shirt as inspiration to develop a distantly feminine and sensual collection of basic, elegant black and white pieces. The editors of VOGUE interpreted it as Mario’s way to “re-edit the way to seduce,” and acknowledged his success in achieving the interesting proposal he sought to create.
Mario, who now resides in New York, appeared amid a select group of Colombian designers with distinguished careers in fashion.
The most provocative soberness: Mario Guerrero re-edits the way to seduce
VOGUE Magazine article
August 2014, Latin America
New York is the stage that for the past two years stimulates his senses and creativity, but Colombia, his native land, remains his most authentic inspiration.
[He designs for] a modern woman, confident and elegant. Mario Guerrero has a clear idea of the type of women who would wear his garments, created to enhance the natural beauty of the wearer. The feminine sensuality is manifested in folds and layers that provide the just measure of soberness, while a subtle asymmetry adds the unexpected note of mystery in the proposal he seeks, and achieves, to be interesting. The colors that dye his philosophy: black and white in their most seductive version.
The search for his own voice in the large fashion capitals of the world led Mario to set base in Brooklyn, a new meca of creative renaissance. Before that, in Colombia, he worked with renowned designers, such as Johana Ortiz, and subsequently collaborating with Pink Filosofy from the brand’s beginning.
After landing in the big apple, he participated for two seasons in Tia Cibani’s as patternmaker in her launch as an independent designer [after being the Head Designer of Ports 1969]. Now, Guerrero faces his biggest creative challenge: “Adopting the legacy of the great visionaries of fashion and combining this with a fresh, singular vision,” to continue to place above all the woman that bets on originality and who is passionate about soberness and sensuality.
